Lift Sharing

Copied over from the Resources/Suggestions section, from Nate:
>>I think we should somehow arrange a way of sharing lifts to events, especially those held at The Fold. This may occur naturally over time of course, as people get to know each other. It would be handy however for those that are new to the group and who don't wish to drive on their own.
I'll start the ball rolling. I have a two seat Smart car and can offer a lift to any of The Fold events that I am going to. Just message me through the forum.<<
NOTE You can message people a) if they've ticked the personal contact form in their profile and b) you are logged in - find the person on the 'user list'.

National Car Share
Hi, you could always use www.nationalcarshare.co.uk website for lift sharing Its a completely free site, will handle all the organisation work for you. All you need to do is register then the drivers can put in the lifts they are offers and the other people will be able to find it. This will solve all the data protection problems for you as well as organising where people are coming from e.t.c. Hope this helps!
Car share websites
Thanks for the suggestion. There was a host of car share websites last time I looked - see the list on the Malvern Green Green Life page. Would be good if there was less choice here, as it would increase the chance of linking up appropriately!
Lift sharing & contacting people.
I completely agree that we should get very good at sharing transport - especially to The Fold.
John: I tried clicking on names on the 'user list' but couldn't see how to send them an e-mail... maybe there is something I didn't see, or maybe folks havn't ticked the personal contact box. Could you be slightly more specific how to do it - I couldn't see a help facility.
Also, as the contact list doesn't show where people live so it's hard to know whether sharing transport would be practicable. As things progress it would be useful to have a contact list with addresses, phone nos and e-mail addresses for those that are willing to make them available. With data protection does this become a nightmare by requiring that everyone has to sign something to make their details available?
I started a new topic about 'neighbourhood groups' - if we followed that route then each group could maintain a contact list of folks in their neighbourhood - which might help with administration and also neatly help with the lift sharing issue.
Comments & suggestions?...
PS. John: well done for the huge amount of work that you must have put in to setting up this website and discussion forum!!
Contacts and neighbourhoods
Hi Jonathan
Thanks for the suggestion/action neighbourhood groups - I almost added something on this to the User Profile options, but thought Skills and interests would do as a start.
People could put their contact details online without any immediate data protection issues but a) getting rid of out-of-date stuff can be a problem and b) there will be an expectation that I (as central list holder) will refer to such details, and this gets unwieldy. And c) there would be a real problem if someonee added contact details for other people!
I suggest that I add a Neighbourhood section on the profile, and people can add 'West Malvern', 'Malvern Link' or whatever they identify with. And see how that works/develops.
And yes, on contacting others via the website, it depends on that tick for the personal contact box. Not everyone has ticked it.
