Hot Tips from Doris

Doris from Malvern is 100 years old and has given us these 'Hot Tips' for keeping warm in winter.
 

Clothes

Choose Natural Fibres.
Use a number of Layers.
Wear Underclothes.
All clothes worn should be large enough
                For example: Long socks and tops long enough to 'tuck in' covering the lower back)
Have a Seasonal wardrobe.
Wear Bed socks and use an under blanket. 
 

Lifestyle

Maintain regular exercise.
Do more tasks yourself without relying on powered tools and appliances.
Ensure you get plenty of sleep.
Try to remain content and relaxed.
 

Food

Always have breakfast - Porridge in the winter.
Have regular meals.
Seasonal diet including Soups and Stews.
Serve small portions and have a winter pudding for example using suet, treacle or pudding rice.
Use Ginger in hot water for a drink or use in other recipes.

Windows and Doors

Close curtains early especially in rooms not in use.
Utilise the sunlight and its warmth in rooms that face it.
Exclude drafts as much as possible.
 

Insulation

Make sure your roof space and cavity walls are insulated if you have them.
 

Heating

Dress warm rather than cranking up the heat.
Use economically, either low in the background or not at all.
Lower the thermostat a few degrees.
